Jimmy Carson

James Charles "Jimmy" Carson ( born July 20, 1968 in Southfield, Michigan ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player ( center ), who from 1986 to 1996 for the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers, Detroit Red Wings, Vancouver Canucks and Hartford Whalers played in the National Hockey League.

Career

As a junior, he played one of the few Americans in the Verdun Junior Canadiens in the QMJHL with Claude Lemieux. With the team he played in the final tournament for the 1985 Memorial Cup. NHL Entry Draft 1986, he was selected in the first round in second place by the Los Angeles Kings.

As the youngest player in the NHL, he raced in the 1986 season / 87th Together with his teammates Steve Duchesne and Luc Robitaille he was one of three Kings players that were selected in this year to the NHL All- Rookie Team. In his second season in Los Angeles, he managed 55 goals and 107 points for bests born in the United States players. Behind Wayne Gretzky, he was the second youngest player to reach the 50 - goal mark.

When the Kings to the 1988/89 season Gretzky committed, Carson was the most valuable player, the Kings sent towards Edmonton. With him went Martin Gélinas and from Edmonton came in addition to numerous first-round draft rights nor Marty McSorley to Los Angeles.

Even with the Edmonton Oilers, he reached 100 points in his first season. Shortly after the start of the 1989/90 season he was discharged to the Detroit Red Wings. In turn came, among others, Petr Klima, Joe Murphy and Adam Graves to the Oilers. For the Red Wings, he was unfortunate to stand in the shadow of Steve Yzerman and asked in the 1992/93 season to a change. An exchange transaction brought him back to the Los Angeles Kings. In turn came, among others, Paul Coffey to Detroit.

With Wayne Gretzky and the Kings he reached in 1993, the only time the Stanley Cup final series, however, it lost to the Montreal Canadiens. In 1994 he moved to the Vancouver Canucks, but soon the Hartford Whalers were his new team. Carson was far removed from the services at the beginning of his career and moved to the 1995/96 season to Switzerland for HC Lausanne, for whom he played 13 games. He returned once for eleven games with the Whalers.

Carson is of Greek descent. His grandfather changed the name of Kiriazopoulos in Carson.
