Jimmy Nottingham

James Edward "Jimmy" Nottingham junior ( * December 15, 1925 in New York City; † November 16, 1978 ) was an American jazz trumpeter.

Nottingham first played with Cecil Payne (1943 ) and Max Roach, was in World War II to 1945 with the U.S. Navy and then at Willie Smith and Lionel Hampton (1945 to 1947 as a High Note trumpet ), Charlie Barnet, Lucky Millinder. From 1948 to 1950 he was with Count Basie as a solo trumpeter, then with Herbie Fields and the Latin bands of Perez Prado and Noro Morales ( 1951-1953 ). From 1954, he was over twenty years of television studio musician at CBS. By the way he played jazz in a quintet that he had in 1962 with Budd Johnson, was with Dizzy Gillespie at the Antibes Jazz Festival and played from 1966 to 1970 in the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra. In the 1970s, he was in the Clark Terry Big Band (1974 /75).

He has played with Stan Kenton (1955 in television), Benny Goodman, and took with Lionel Hampton, Charlie Barnet, Sonny Stitt, Manny Albam, Quincy Jones, Jimmy Mundy, Ray Charles, Oliver Nelson ( 1967), Chico O'Farrill, Shirley Scott, Kenny Burrell, Joe Cain and Tony Scott on.

He recorded only once under their own name for Seeco 1957.
