Jion kata group

Jion (Japanese慈恩) is the name of a Karate Kata and means love and goodness. You will fall in the same group as Jiin and Jitte.

The Kata has its origin probably common in China and has been from the Tomari region of Okinawa starting. It is believed that the name of the Kata on the temple Ci'en si (Chinese慈恩 寺, Japanese Jion -ji ) or one working there abbot Kui Ji ( 632-682 ;窥基Chinese, Pinyin Kuījī, Japanese Ki Ki) whose posthumous name is Jion - Daishi (Japanese慈恩 大师) back.

This typical Shotokan Kata has Gusukuma Master ( Master Azatos ) as creator. She is one of the higher basic kata of medium difficulty, must be mastered to 1st Dan and consists of 46 movements. It is also still practiced in Wado - Ryu and the Kobayashi - ryū. Your flow and rhythm are the same and the techniques are nearly identical.

Typical techniques are Yori Ashi and rotation ( Manji uke ) with follow- defense in the upper, middle and lower level.

Jion is according to WKF competition rules in addition to Kanku - Dai one of the two Shitei ( mandatory) kata of Shotokan style. You should be performed within a period of about 60 seconds.
