Jiří Pešek

Jiri Pesek ( born June 4, 1927 in Prague, † 20 May 2011) was a Czechoslovakian football player and coach of Czech origin.

Playing career

In the club

Jiri Pesek played as a teenager at FC Bohemians Prague, where he made ​​his debut at age 16 in the 1943/44 season in the Erstligamannschaft. Soon, the left winger was one of the best attackers in the league.

1952 Pesek moved to Sparta and won in 1952 and 1954, the championship there. In the season 1954 Pesek was top scorer with 15 League and shot on 15 August 1954 was the hundredth goal in the top division.

During his time at Sparta Prague Jiri Pesek also worked in a CKD factory. When the team in 1955 until midnight came back from a friendly and Pesek refused to enter into the factory the next morning, his time at Sparta was over. He moved to Slavia Prague, which was playing as Dynamo Prague. For Slavia, which usually was located in the middle of the league, Pesek scored 38 goals. 1959 Pesek went to Motorlet Prague, with his 1963 promotion to the 1st League, but there, the team was able to hold only a year and dismounted. After the 1964/65 season Pesek ended his career. In 298 first division matches he scored 149 goals.

In the National Team

Jiri Pesek was used on May 11, 1947 the first time in the Czechoslovak national team. In 1948, he was checked at the border, where 7,000 crowns were found that Pesek by his own admission was going to use for the purchase of a coat in Yugoslavia. Pesek was henceforth out as a smuggler in the record and was not allowed to leave the country until 1954. This year he was part of the Czechoslovak squad at the World Championships in Switzerland, the team did not progress beyond the group stage. His last of eleven internationals played Pesek on October 27, 1957 in a 4-1 victory over the team of the GDR before 110,000 spectators in Leipzig Central Stadium.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career Jiří Pesek worked as a trainer at Viktoria Zizkov, 1967-1969 at BANIK Pribram, which he then led first to the fourth to the third tier. In 1970 he worked in the USA at Sparta Chicago. 1975/76 he was coach of the Greek first division club Panserraikos, the team got off the Table. From 1978 to 1980 Pesek coached the Finnish Olympic Team, 1981 Valur Reykjavík. 1982/83 he was working in northern Yemen, 1993/94 he was the coach of the Indian national team.

Jiri Pesek died on 20 May 2011 at the age of 83 years.
