Jiří Třanovský

Jiří Třanovský ( Juraj Třanovský, Tranoscius, born March 27, 1592 Teschen; † May 29, 1637 in Liptovsky Mikulas ) was a Czech poet and hymn composer.

Life

He was the son of Valentin Třanovský of Třanovice from Třanovice and his wife Hedvika Zentkovská from Smilovice. Třanovský visited 1603 schools in Guben and Kolberg. In 1607 he entered the University of Wittenberg to study philosophy and theology. He worked as a teacher from 1611, inter alia, at the grammar school of St. Nicholas in the Lesser Town and became pastor in 1615 Valašské Meziříčí. In 1622 he fled from the Counter-Reformation in Silesia. In 1625 he was a chaplain in Orava Podzámok 1631 and priest in Liptovsky Mikulas in Slovakia.

Works

He translated the Augsburg Confession into Czech in 1620, published three volumes of Latin odes ( Odarum Sacrarum immersive Hymnorum Libri III, 1629), the Czech prayer book Phiala odoramentorum (1635 ) and the Slovak- Czech Hymns Cithara Sanctorum. Luthera wssecky z Nnemecké Reci do nassi Slowanské Preložené ( 1636), with over four hundred songs, of which he had composed about one hundred and fifty itself.
