Jnanpith Award

The Jnanpith Award is the most important literary award of India. It was donated in 1961 and is awarded annually since 1965. Prize winners may be Indian citizens who write in one of the official Indian languages. The prize is worth 250,000 rupees. Until 1981 he was awarded for a single work, since 1982, he appreciates a writer who has made an important contribution to Indian literature.
