Joachim Sauter

Joachim Sauter ( born 1959 ) is a German media artist and gestalter and is considered a pioneer of new media.

Life

Sauter studied design at the Academy of Arts Berlin and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd, as well as directing and cinematography at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin. Since the beginning of his artistic and creative activity, he deals with the computer as a tool and medium. His work has shaped the field of new media. In 1988, Sauter together with other artists, designers, scientists and programmers to design office for new media ART COM in Berlin. The aim was to explore the medium of computer in the field of art and design. Since 1991 Joachim Sauter is professor of art and digital media design at the University of the Arts, Berlin, since 2001 Adjunct Professor of Media Design and Media Arts at UCLA, Los Angeles. Joachim Sauter lives in Berlin.

Awards

Sauter was awarded in 2010 for his " Kinetic Sculpture " with the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany in gold.
