Joachimites

Joachimiten are the followers of the prophecy of Joachim of Floris († 1201), who had proclaimed the dawn of the age of the spirit for 1260. It should be followed by the Age of the Father and of the Son and move back the secularized church in early Christian states. The Joachimiten was initially the Hohenstaufen Emperor Frederick II, later the Pope as Antichrist. The Joachimismus was taken over by the rugged direction of the Franciscans, which had split from the main trunk in 1230 to realize the original ideal of poverty again and thereby fell into open conflict with the Curia. In the 13th and 14th centuries Joachimiten were persecuted by the Inquisition in Italy.
