Joan Baptista Pla

Joan Baptista Pla i Agustí (* 1720 in Balaguer (Catalonia ), † 1773 in Stuttgart) was a Spanish composer and oboist.

Life and work

Joan Baptista came from a Catalan family of musicians. He was with his brother José Pla (1728-1762) chamber musician. After 1751 they toured most European capitals, including Padua, Stuttgart, Brussels, Paris and London. After the death of José in 1762 settled Joan Baptista in Lisbon as an oboist, bassoonist and Dulzianspieler.

From the work of the Pla brothers hundreds of manuscripts, manuscript copies and some old prints have survived. Among them are known about 30 trio sonatas with wind instruments and some concertos for flute and strings. Another brother, Manuel Pla ( † 1766 ), was a violinist and harpsichordist at the court of Madrid.
