Joan Franka
Joan Franka (actually: Ayten Kalan, born April 2, 1990 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch singer. The daughter of a Turkish father and a Dutch mother was known by participating in the talent show The Voice of Holland, the Dutch edition of The Voice. She was a singer and composer of the Dutch contribution to the Euro Vision Song Contest 2012 You and me. Your Turkish father Ali Kalan died when Joan was two years old. Because she has little contact with their relatives in Turkey, she speaks very little Turkish.
As musical idols Joan are always at musicians of the 1960s. In particular, John Lennon and Yoko Ono have made a deep impression on them.
The Voice of Holland ( TVOH )
2010 Joan was discovered on the video website YouTube and invited to the first edition of the talent show The Voice Of Holland. She was there the so-called blind auditions and the show remained preserved until the third live show.
While TVOH sang Joan include the title How You Remind Me ( Nickelback ), Walking in Memphis (Marc Cohn ) and Foolish Games ( Jewel Kilcher ). Although the titles were available for download after the shows, did not make it Joan, to sing in the Dutch Single Top 100 on the front seats.
Euro Vision Song Contest 2012
Still, it managed to Joan, one of the six participants in the Dutch preliminary decision for the Euro Vision Song Contest in 2012. There, they first had to contend with the favored participant Raffaëla who had achieved self respecting successes already outside the Netherlands in a duel. Joan appeared with an Indian costume, including Native American feather headdress, their guitar and four dancers and prevailed against her rival. While later everyone involved in the show said positive things about the song You and me, but pushed her outfit on great rejection - not only in the Netherlands but also in the rest of Europe. Joan explained that she did not want to enter the U.S. Native Americans too near with the outfit. Your outfit can be explained by their song, in which she sang from her first childhood sweetheart, with whom she had ever played " Indians."
At the finals, she then met with the winners of the other two duels, Pearl Jozefzoon and Ivan Peroti. After Joan, Pearl and Ivan had once sung their songs, first agreed the jury about the songs. Here Joan initially fell sharply. During the subsequent televoting but united so many viewers behind her, she was chosen by a large margin, as a Dutch ESC participant. She joined on 24 May 2012 in the second ESC semi-final in Baku, but could not qualify for the two days later held finale.
The song You and me got into the week after the Song Festival, a No. 1 on the Dutch Top 100. Although it was assumed that Joan Franka got a recording contract with 8ball Music by John de Mol, but the label does not lead to the artist among artists, which it has under contract.
