Joan Hickson

Joan Hickson (* August 5, 1906 in Kingsthorpe, Northampton, † October 17, 1998 in Wivenhoe, Colchester ) was a British actress.

Life and work

Joan Hickson played after she made her debut in 1934 in the film supporting roles in many well-known and important films of the 1950s in England, including captain seasick and The Irresistible starring Alec Guinness and made, not least because a name as a great comedienne. In addition, she appeared in seven films from Gerald Thomas, including on five of the series Carry .... In 1957, she starred in the film Carry on Admiral, which this series had then gave its name. She had well over 100 appearances in feature films and television series.

She was known for her Miss Marple representation. Already in the 1940s, Agatha Christie had seen her in a stage play and wrote to her. "I hope you one day playing my Miss Marple " In 1961 she appeared in a supporting role as caregiver Mrs. Kidder in the film 16 clock 50 from Paddington next to Margaret Rutherford on.

From 1984 to 1992, the BBC has a total of 12 Miss Marple films produced with her that ran in Germany in the third party programs and therefore are less well known. However, their understated performance of Miss Marple is the fictional character much closer than the tomboyish type of Margaret Rutherford in the film adaptations of the 1960s.
