João Braz de Aviz

João Braz de Aviz Cardinal ( born April 24, 1947 in Mafra, Santa Catarina, Brazil ) is a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

João Braz de Aviz was born as one of eight children of the spouses João Avelino de Aviz and Juliana hoe de Aviz. In his childhood, the family moved to Borrazópolis. On April 21, 1958 Braz de Aviz was sent to the Seminário Menor São Pio X. according to Assis. João Braz de Aviz then studied philosophy at the seminary Rainha dos Apóstolos in Curitiba and at the Theological Faculty in Palmas. From 1967 to 1972 he studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Braz de Aviz earned a licentiate in Catholic theology. He received on 26 November 1972 the Bishop of Apucarana, Romeu Alberti, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese Apucarana.

From 1973 to 1984 João Braz de Aviz as pastor worked in some parishes of the diocese Apucarana. He was from 1984 to 1985 rector of the seminary of Apucarana and from 1986 to 1988 rector of the Seminary of Londrina. Braz de Aviz in 1989 was sent to Rome for further studies at the Pontifical Lateran University. He received his doctorate with a dissertation on the dogmatic doctor of theology in 1992. From 1991 to 1994, João Braz de Aviz pastor at the Cathedral of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes in Apucarana and professor of dogmatic theology at the Istituto Paolo VI Teologico. in Londrina. He also was a member of the Council of Priests and the College of Consultors of the Diocese Apucarana and coordinator for the Pastoral Care in the Diocese Apucarana.

April 6, 1994, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Flenucleta and ordered him auxiliary bishop in Vitória. He received his episcopal consecration on 31 May of the same year the Bishop of Apucarana, Domingos Gabriel Wisniewski CM; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Vitória, Luís Silvestre Scandian SVD, and the Bishop of Palmares, Acácio Rodrigues Alves. João Braz de Aviz is the motto Omnes Unum Sint chose ( " all be one "), which is taken from the Gospel according to John ( Jn 17:21 EU). As Bishop João Braz de Aviz was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Vitória and President of the Regional Episcopal Conference of Espírito Santo, and a member of the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference. He was also secretary of the XIII. National Eucharistic Congress.

John Paul II appointed João Braz de Aviz on 12 August 1998 as Bishop of Ponta Grossa. The inauguration took place on 15 October of the same year. On 17 July 2002 Braz de Aviz was appointed Archbishop of Maringá. The inauguration took place on 4 October of the same year. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 28 January 2004 as Archbishop of Brasília. This took office João Braz de Aviz on 27 March of the same year. In May 2010, João Braz de Aviz organized the XVI. National Eucharistic Congress.

On January 4, 2011 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, colloquially also called religious congregation. João Braz de Aviz occurred on 16 February 2011 at his office.

In solemn consistory of February 18, 2012 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia Sant Elena fuori Porta Prenestina in the College of Cardinals.
