João Pedro da Silva Pereira (born 25 February 1984 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese football player.

Career

In the club

Pereira learned to play football in the youth of Benfica and debuted on August 17, 2003 as part of a 0-0 draw with Boavista in the pros. In his debut season 2003/ 04 he played 25 games and was doing mostly in midfield. In the following season 2004 /05 Pereira was part of the Benfica team that won the championship and played many games from the beginning, until he fell out with coach Ronald Koeman and was initially banned later in the B team on the bench as well. After he was loaned to Gil Vicente FC in 2006 and was convinced he signed with the club from Barcelos a connection agreement. Meanwhile anchored firmly to the position of right-back, Pereira pulled after only one year more to Sporting Braga before he was taken in December 2009 for a transfer fee in the amount of three million euros from Sporting Lisbon under contract.

For the season 2012/ 13, Pereira joined the Spanish side Valencia.

In the National Team

Pereira played 23 games for the Portuguese U- 21 team. In October 2010 he was appointed national coach Paulo Bento for the first time in the national team, and he played his first international match in European Championship qualifier against Denmark and as regular players took part in the 2012 European Championship.
