Joaquim Sunyer

Joaquim Sunyer i de Miró, as Joaquim Sunyer known ( born December 20, 1874 in Sitges, Province of Barcelona; † November 1, 1956 ibid ) was a Catalan painter and engraver. He is regarded as one of the most important representatives of noucentisme in Catalonia and Spain.

Life

Already in his youth he was taught by his uncle Joaquim Miró in drawing and painting. At the age of 15 he moved with his family to Barcelona and studied art at the famous Escola de la Llotja Barcelona along with Joaquim Mir, Isidre Nonell and Joaquín Torres García. After graduating in 1896 his works were exhibited in the Exposicià de Bellas Artes Barcelona. In the same year he went to Paris, where he first followed the style of Neo-Impressionism. He painted numerous landscapes and portraits. His longtime residence in Paris brought him along with Pablo Picasso, Manolo Martínez Hugue, Amedeo Modigliani and Albert Marquet. During this time in France, he also undertook a short study trips to Italy. His compositions are influenced by the Mediterranean light and very intense colors. In 1911 he returned to Catalonia and moved into his house in Sitges, where he worked until his death.

His friends were the writers Joan Maragall, Eugeni d' Ors and Joan Salvat; they brought him into the political environment of the early 19th century by Enric Prat de la Riba founded katalanistischen movement Solidarity Catalana, from which followed the Catalan painting of noucentisme under its influence.

His works from the period of noucentisme were drawn by reason, accuracy, sincerity, order, and clarity. The clear line took precedence over the color and sobriety. He succeeded in the synthesis of a landscape analysis, the structural aspects of Paul Cézanne were characterized, and their own figurative art, which shows the same structure as in some patterns of the early Italian Renaissance. Sunyer painted anti-realistic and normatively, he gives archetypes Catalan landscapes again and portrays his people with a great sense of harmony and balance. His works, he signed it always very simply with Sunyer.
