Joaquín del Pino

Joaquín del Pino Sánchez de Rozas Romero y Negrete ( born January 20, 1729 Baena (Córdoba ), Spain, † April 11, 1804 in Buenos Aires ) was a Spanish politician and military, who had held various positions within the colonial administration.

Joaquín del Pino was born the son of María Sánchez de Rojas and Francisco del Pino Romero. At the age of 18 he joined as a cadet in the regiment of Oran, where he lived with his family 20 years. At a very young age, he found his way to the Academia Militar de Ingenieros. In 1770 he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In the same year he was sent to Montevideo. Joaquín del Pino was there as a successor to José Joaquín de Viana from February 1773 until August 2, 1790 Governor of Montevideo. During this period took place in 1789 his elevation to the military rank of brigadier and soon after his posting to Charcas as Capitán general, where he was governor and president of the local Court. After these functions exercised until 1798, joined in that year he was appointed to Mariscal. Between 1799 and 1801 he held then the post of governor of Chile. Then he was on 20 May 1801 to his death on April 11, 1804 Viceroy of the Río de la Plata.
