Job (Osacky)

Job ( * as Richard John Osacky on March 18, 1946 in Chicago, † December 18, 2009 in Maumee, Ohio) was an Orthodox archbishop and bishop of the Diocese of the Midwest of the Orthodox Church in America.

Life

Richard John Osacky studied at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, and at Saint Tikhon Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania. In 1970 he was cantor and director of youth work in the parish of Saint John the Baptist Church in Black Lick, Pennsylvania. Later he was in charge of chaplains for the Orthodox worship and the performance of religious education and youth work, icons and painting. His commitment to the youth work has been recognized nationally. In 1973 he was ordained a deacon and (later Metropolitan Theodosius of America and Canada ) into the priesthood by Bishop Theodosius of Pittsburgh added. In addition to his pastoral work, he was a university chaplain for the Indiana University in Pennsylvania.

At the synod of 5 November 1992 Job was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest. He was enthroned as Bishop of his hometown in the Holy Trinity Cathedral on 6 February 1993. Bishop Job was committed to the many new parishes in the diocese.

In recognition of his more than twenty years of successful work as Archpriest him the personal title of archbishop was awarded to the Holy Synod in 2004. Archbishop Job was known nationally in recent years, when he took action against alleged financial mismanagement and corruption of the church leadership.

He was regarded as a specialist in iconography and was a renowned Ikonologist sought-after lecturer.
