Jocy de Oliveira

Jocy de Oliveira ( born April 11, 1936 in Curitiba ) is a Brazilian pianist and composer.

De Oliveira studied in São Paulo with José Klias, in Paris with Marguerite Long and the University of St. Louis, Missouri. It acts mainly as an interpreter of music of the 20th century in America and Europe. Composers such as Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio and Cláudio Santoro wrote works for her, she took the major works of Olivier Messiaen and worked together in concerts with John Cage and Lukas Foss. In more than twenty CDs they played alongside the works of Messiaen's primarily an own compositions.

De Oliveira is the most famous contemporary composer of Brazil. The focus of her work are electronic multimedia works, including several operas and stage works, as well as video projects. In addition, it also emerged as a writer. She was married to the composer Eleazar de Carvalho.
