Joel Grey

Joel Grey (* April 11, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is an American actor and Academy Award winner.

Life

Grey is a theater and film actor. He is one of eight actors who managed to win a Tony Award as well as an Oscar for one and the same role. He received both awards for the role of the conferencier in the musical Cabaret. Grey played this role initially on Broadway, directed by Harold Prince and then in the film adaptation of Bob Fosse on the side of Liza Minnelli.

Joel Grey starred in numerous television series and feature films (including 1976 in No coke for Sherlock Holmes and 1991 in Kafka ) with. However, after Cabaret he could not have any existing success more. In 2000, he was next to the Icelandic pop singer Björk and the Frenchwoman Catherine Deneuve to the ensemble cast of Lars von Trier's film Dancer in the Dark, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Recently the actor was seen again in 2003 on Broadway. There, he played the Wizard of Oz in the hit musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz at the side of Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth.

Grey is the father of actress Jennifer Grey.

Awards

In honor of his work in the theater Joel Grey was dedicated a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6753 Hollywood Boulevard address.
