Joey Dee & The Starliters was an American musical group in the early 1960s.

History

Joey Dee ( born June 11, 1940 in Passaic, New Jersey; actually Joseph DiNicola ) founded the band in 1958 As of 1960, the formation appeared regularly in the New York disco Peppermint Lounge, which became a focal point for Twist fans.. Joey took advantage of this and wrote with Henry Glover the title Peppermint Twist, which was a number 1 hit and million-seller.

Thanks to this success, the band also appeared in several music films like Hey Let's Twist and Vive le twist. In addition, Dee discovered early aspiring musicians. In 1963 he hired the pianist Little Willie Littlefield, guitarist Gene Cornish and the organist Felix Cavaliere for his group. The latter two later founded the Young Rascals. In the spring of 1966 - before Chas Chandler discovered him and took them under contract - also played Jimi Hendrix briefly at the Starliters.
