Joey Giardello

Joey Giardello (* July 16, 1930 as Carmine Orlando Tilelli in Brooklyn, New York, † September 2, 2008 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey ) was an American boxer.

Career

Rear Boxer Giardello in 1948 mainly in professional and punched his longtime residence Philadelphia. 1952 and 1953, he won two of three spectacular battles against the future Hall -of- Fame boxer Billy Graham, but had trouble getting to big fights throughout the 1950s.

In 1959, the first two were held by a total of four battles against Dick Tiger; both won while each one of the duels on points. In his first major title fight he succeeded on April 20, 1960 against Gene Fullmer only a draw.

In 1963 he defeated the 42 -year-old Sugar Ray Robinson and got a third fight against Dick Tiger, who had now won the middleweight world championship. On December 7, 1963, he won at the age of 33 years by point victory against Tiger and thus won the title. He defended him against Rubin Carter, but was defeated in 1965 at the fourth encounter tigers and lost the title. In 1967 he ended his boxing career.

In 1993 Giardello induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Trivia

At the award- winning film " The Hurricane" starring Denzel Washington, which is about the lives Rubin Carter, the title fight Giardello Ruby was shown for dramatic reasons as if Giardello would have to thank for the fact -won point victory merely a racist Boxjury. In fact, it was a regular victory. As a result of this false representation successfully fought Giardello $ 300,000 in damages.
