Jógvan Isaksen

Jógvan Isaksen ( born August 25, 1950 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer, abroad, especially known for his crime novels.

Jógvan is the son of Magnhild Isaksen and Reimar Isaksen, both from Gøta.

After graduating from high school in 1970 in Tórshavn he studied Scandinavian at the University of Aarhus in 1982 and was Master of Nordic literature. In 1978 he became head of the oldest, founded in 1914 the publishers to Faroe Islands " Mentunargrunnur Studentafelagsins ". Since 1986 he is a lecturer at the University of Copenhagen and teaches Faroese. Since 2000 he has been editor of the journal Nordisk literature of the Nordic Council.

Since 1978, Jógvan Isaksen operated as a writer and was awarded the 1994 Literature Prize of the Faroe Islands for his literary criticism textbook Í hornatøkum við Procrustean about the writer Hanus Andreassen ( Hanus Kamban ), but also for his oeuvre, which has the Faroese literature to the main subject.

The crime he blid summarnátt á Føroyalandi 1990 was the first internationally recognized crime in Faroese language. Itself also brought by the author into Danish, he was translated after the release into Icelandic, and later into German and English. The title literally means Mild is the summer night in the Faroe land, where he chose the poetic form Føroyaland for Føroyar. For the German edition of 2006 Faroe terminus was chosen. The second from five tracks to the journalists Hannis Martinsson - Graur october - was published in 2007 in German under the title option Faroe Islands.
