Johan August Sandels

Count Johan August Sandels ( born August 31, 1764 in Stockholm, † January 22, 1831 ) was a Swedish soldier and politician.

He was from 1818 to 1827 Reich governor of Norway, and in 1824, Field Marshall. In the Russo- Swedish War 1808-1809, he led the Finnish troops in the Battle of the Virt retreating to a victory against Russia. This event later appeared in a series of poems by Johan Ludvig Runeberg.

Sandels is also a brand of beer, which is brewed by the brewery Olvi since 1971. Humorous stories about Colonel Sandels ( and his love for beer and good food ) shall be printed on the label on the back of the bottle.
