Johan Baazius the younger

John D. J. Baazius (* July 13, 1626 in Jonkoping, † May 12, 1681 in Stockholm) was a Swedish Lutheran theologian and Archbishop of Uppsala.

Life

Baazius, a son of the theologian and later bishop of Växjö Baazius John Elder, studied at the universities of Dorpat, Uppsala, Königsberg and Greifswald. Later he worked as a court chaplain to Queen Christina, and their successor, Charles X Gustav and (from 1659) as a priest in Vingåker. 1667, he became a bishop in the Diocese of Växjö and 1673 in the Diocese of Skara. In 1675 he became the Dr. theol. doctorate. Appointed in May 1677 to the Archbishop of Uppsala, he served until his death as the highest dignitaries of the Church of Sweden.
