John Danon " Johan " Djourou - Gbadjere ( born January 18, 1987 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast ) is a Swiss footballer of Ivorian origin, who is under contract at Arsenal, but is currently playing on loan at Hamburger SV.

Club career

Youth

His first club was FC Champel, where he stayed for short; the age of eight he went to the Étoile Carouge FC. Here he first played as a striker, but when 13 -year-old moved to the defensive midfield. Even in youth he joined in July 2003 for Arsenal.

Professional at Arsenal (2004-2007)

National

Djourou got his first squad for the national team of Switzerland for the friendly against Scotland. The first line-up was followed by the first international game he played at the age of 19 years in Glasgow on March 1, 2006. He played it at times with his former team-mate Philippe Senderos from Arsenal FC in the Swiss central defense.

He belonged to the squad of the Swiss national team at the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and came in three of the four Swiss World Cup games available for use. As part of the " Swiss Sports Awards", he was voted " Newcomer of the Year ". At the European Championships held in 2008 he was again in the national squad Switzerland.
