Johan Garpenlöv
Johan Garpenlöv ( born March 21, 1968 in Stockholm ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach and - functionary. During his career he played for Djurgårdens IF in the Swedish Elitserien and the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League on the left wing.
Career
Garpenlöv first played two years in the Swedish second league, before moving to Djurgårdens IF in the season 1986/87. Previously, he had been selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1986 by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round to 85th.
After four years at Djurgårdens the Red Wings picked him up at the beginning of the season 1990/91 in the National Hockey League. In his rookie season he scored in the game against the St. Louis Blues scored four goals. During the 1991/92 season Garpenlöv both played with the Red Wings, as well as their AHL farm team. In March 1992 it is for Bob McGill and an eight -round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 to the San Jose Sharks. There he formed the so-called OV- series with the two Russian stars Igor Larionov and Sergei Makarov. The Swede remained until the 1994/95 season in Northern California and was there in 1992/93 his best NHL season with 66 points.
In March 1995, San Jose gave him away to the Florida Panthers, with whom he reached the final of the Stanley Cup in the 1995/96 season. In the summer of 1999 he had to leave the Panthers after four years, since he had been selected in the NHL Expansion Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. After a year with the Thrashers Garpenlöv went back to his native Sweden and still played one season at Djurgårdens IF.
After ending his playing career, the Swede from 2002 worked as an assistant coach at Djurgårdens IF to 2005, while he was active in the same function for the Swedish national team in the World Cup of Hockey 2004. Since the season 2010/11 Garpenlöv acts as assistant general manager of the Swedish selection.
Internationally
In addition to various missions in World and European Championships in the Swedish Junior Team selection Garpenlöv played in the World Cup in 1992 and the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 for the Swedish national ice hockey team.
