Johan Santana ( born March 31, 1979 in Tovar, Mérida, Venezuela ) is a Venezuelan baseball player who plays as a pitcher in Major League Baseball for the New York Mets.

After he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 1999, he came to the Minnesota Twins, for the 2000 he gave his debut in the MLB. 2004 and 2006 he won the Cy Young Award of the American League.

Acting as driving force led Santana 2004 his club from the Twin Cities in the play-offs, where they were defeated in the first round of the New York Yankees.
