Johan Willem Beyen

Johan Willem Beijen, nickname Wim Beyen ( born 2 May 1897 in Utrecht, † April 29, 1976 in The Hague) was a Dutch banker, politician and diplomat.

Beyen was with Joseph Luns 1952-1956 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in the third cabinet of Willem Drees. He was all his life to any party, but was at that time supported by the Katholieke Volkspartij. Previously, he was a senior official in charge of the bank financing. During his time as minister, he played a major part in setting up the European Economic Community ( EEC).

Although Beyen true took the money and banking as his determination, he described the time as foreign minister as the most pleasant and fruitful period of his life. However, his relationship was marked to his colleague Joseph Luns of jurisdictional disputes and was regarded as conflictual. After the legislature Luns became the sole foreign minister and Beyen was ambassador in Paris.

From the house of a Protestant, his father was a member of the Algemene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit and his mother Remonstrantin, he later converted to Catholicism
