Johann Birnbaum

Johannes Birnbaum ( born January 6, 1763 in Queichheim, now Landau, † May 20, 1832 in Zweibrücken) was a German lawyer and president of the Court of Appeal in Zweibrücken.

Life

Birnbaum was born in 1763 in the Palatine Queichheim. First as an assistant teacher, barber and surgeon in Landau worked, it was in the time of the French Revolution in 1791 the city administration Landau 's assistant and worked as a court clerk. In the Service of the French Republic Birnbaum in 1795 justice of the peace in Landau, 1799 Deputy Prefect of the Department Niederrhein, 1800 Prefect of Luxembourg, 1815 Vice- president of the court in Trier.

In 1817, Birnbaum was awarded for his great achievements as a lawyer by Count Montgelas commissioned by King Maximilian I of Bavaria granted the personal title of nobility ( ennoblement ). From 1824 until his death in 1832 was the highest judge of Birnbaum Bavaria and served as president of the Court of Appeal in Zweibrücken. In the reign of Maximilian Graf von Montgelas Birnbaum played a leading role in the creation of the Bavarian State Constitution of 1818.
