Johann Christian Schickhardt

Johann Christian Schickhardt (* 1680 in Braunschweig, † 1762 in Leiden ) was a German composer.

Little is known about Schickhardt life. He was probably (probably as a flutist or oboist ). A member of the Hamburg opera at the goose market In the first half of the 18th century, numerous mostly chamber music works have been published by him in print. Schickhardt devoted most of these works the alto recorder. With the revitalization of this instrument in 1900 is a great need of relevant literature was so certain of Schickhardt works in the reprint are available.

Mentioned are the sonatas for recorder and basso continuo, Op 1 and Op 17, and the trio sonatas for two recorders and basso continuo, Op 16 There are also works that are stylistically between chamber music and concertante music, such as concertos op.9 for 4 recorders and basso continuo and the 6 sonatas for flute, two oboes and basso continuo.

See also, the Recorder Concerto in G minor and Op 30 (L' alphabet de la musique ) containing Blockflötensonaten in all keys.
