Johann Georg de Hamilton

Johann Georg von Hamilton ( Johann George of Hamilton, Johann George de Hamilton; * 1672 in Brussels, † January 1737 in Vienna) was a well-known animal and still life painter. Son of Jacob or James Hamilton from a Scottish noble family, who had emigrated to the Netherlands (possibly as a result of battle Rullion Green in Galloway on November 28, 1666).

In 1698 he came with his brother Philipp Ferdinand to Vienna. There, he had a job at the imperial court, where he was in 1712 appointed to the court and chamber artist.

From 1709 to 1718 he lived at Castle Trebon ( Trebon ) in South Bohemia with Adam Franz Karl Eusebius, Prince of Schwarzenberg.

Today are sure his depictions of horses and in particular of Lipizzanern his most famous works.
