Johann Wolf

Johann Wolf ( born May 26, 1765 in Nuremberg, † February 16, 1824 ) was a German teacher and ornithologist.

Life

After attending school in Nuremberg in 1789, he studied at the School Teachers' Training College in Meiningen. For outstanding achievements he received a scholarship to an educational journey through northern Germany. In Schnepfenthal he attended the Christian educators God Help Salzmann, who inspired him for the natural sciences and introduced on this occasion.

Wolf he came as a tutor at the Empire mayor Haller of Haller stone and took a teaching job in 1792 at the Büchnerischen teaching and educational institution in his native town. In this position, he published his first work, " A new methodological rules for educational and university institutions ." He devoted himself especially ornithology and was soon regarded as one of the first ornithologists Germany. His "Natural History of the Birds of Germany," he began, together with Bernhard Wagner in 1805, was like his " Handbook of Ornithology Germany for recognition. 1801 Wolf founded the Natural History Society in Nuremberg. Since he had also acquired in the field of technology knowledge, he was in 1803 appointed the first teacher at the newly constructed boys secondary school and appointed in the same year as a curator of the newly established school teacher seminar. For a long time he was suffering lung and was come as another inflammatory bowel disease, he died on 16 February 1824.
