Johannes Herber

Johannes Herber ( born January 17, 1983 in Darmstadt, Hesse ) is a former German professional basketball player.

Life and career

Johannes Herber was born the son of Joachim and Christiane Herber. He attended the village school mountain road, a cooperative comprehensive school.

Herber first played at SC mountain road. From the end of 1996 he coached on the basketball part-time boarding school in Langen and moved to TV Langen. There he played until 2002, most recently in the second basketball league. For the 2002/2003 season Herber went to West Virginia University, where he played until 2006 at the college basketball team. In 2004 he came with his team through to the last eight NCAA Colleges, 2005, the last 16 During the semester break, he came to Germany at the BTI Langen continue to train. He finished his studies in political science with a very good bachelor's degree. For that he got from ESPN Magazine Academic All-American award of the Year.

Since 2001 Herber went through some selection and youth teams of the German national basketball team. So he took the young German team at the 2003 Summer Universiade in Daegu at the end of 10th place in 2005 in Izmir even 5th place with his performance he could recommend for the A- team. In the comeback of coach Dirk Bauer man on 30 July 2004 Herber was his senior team debut in a friendly against Estonia. But in 2006 he managed to become final in the extended squad of the German team and played the Basketball World Championship 2006 in Japan with Dirk Nowitzki & Co. This Herber got far more playing time than many experts expected.

After the World Cup he was taken from ALBA Berlin until 2008 under contract. The contract with ALBA Berlin was originally extended until the end of the 2009/2010 season, but should be resolved according to the 2008/2009 season by mutual consent. Due to a re- torn ACL but the resolution of the contract was canceled. He played from February 2010 to July 2011 at the Walter Tigers Tübingen. His last club was the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt. There he stood until September 2012 in the squad.

In the course of preparations for season 2012/2013 Herber announced his retirement from active competition, he sees no way due to several injuries to be back to 100 % fit. About his personal situation after this resignation, he reported in the arts section of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on February 8, 2013.

Private

Herber lives with his family in Berlin. In 2014 he published his book Almost Heaven: My life as a professional basketball player.
