Johannes Kretz

Johannes Kretz ( born May 8, 1968 in Vienna) is an Austrian composer and teacher of computer music and music theory. He lives and works in Vienna and composed into new classical music, including musical theater and orchestral works, chamber music, church music and electronic music.

Training

From 1986 to 1995 Kretz studied composition and music education at the Vienna Academy of Music ( with F. Burt and M. Jarrell ), further mathematics at the University of Vienna. 1992-1993 he conducted research on the topic of computer music at IRCAM, Paris, among other things, with Marco Stroppa and Brian Ferneyhough.

Artistic

Kretz received orders, among others, the Vienna Konzerthaus, Wien sound, ensemble xx. century, ensemble Online, Vienna flautists, quartett22, Lemgoer International Organ Days, Hallerbach days, Triton Trombone Quartet, Vienna Chamber Choir. furthermore he had performances in Austria, Germany, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey, South Korea and Argentina. He is a founding member of the Newton Ensemble and international composers group PRISMA.

Educational

1996-2001 Kretz was a teacher of music theory / composition at the Vienna Conservatory. Since 1997 he has been a teacher for computer music at the University of Vienna, since 2001, music theory, morphology and ear training, and composition since 2004. From 1994-2003 he worked as an assistant / professor of computer music at the International Bartok Seminar in Szombathely (Hungary). 2005/ 06 Kretz was Visiting Professor of Ecclesiastical Composition at the university of arts.

Research

Kretz is since 2008 director of the Center for Innovative Music Tech ( ZiMT )
