Jóhannes úr Kötlum

Jóhannes Bjarni Jónasson úr Kötlum (* November 4, 1899 in Goddastaðir, now the town Dalabyggð, Iceland, † April 27, 1972 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic writer.

Life

He married on June 24, 1930 Hróðný Einarsdóttir ( born May 12, 1908). They had one son and two daughters: Svanur, Inga Dóra and Þóra. Jóhannes was a teacher until 1932. 1941 He was a Member of Parliament ( Alþingismaður ).

Work

It concerns with him about one of the most famous poet of his time in Iceland, who published 20 volumes of poetry and five novels. He also translated many books and wrote articles for magazines. From him comes, for example, a well-known poem about the thirteen Icelandic Santas Jólasveinar.
