Johannes W. Pichler

Johannes Werner Pichler ( born July 1, 1947 in Linz) is an Austrian University Professor of European Law and Development at the Karl- Franzens- University Graz and director of the Austrian Research Institute of Legal Policy in Salzburg.

After studying law at the Universities of Vienna and Salzburg sat Pichler his academic career as an assistant professor of legal history at the University of Salzburg continued. Since 1986 he has been director of the Salzburg -based Austrian non-university Research Institute of Legal Policy. In 1994 he took over the chair " European legal developments " at the University of Graz.

Pichler is chairman of the association, Europe needs initiative eV, whose core objective is to promote European citizens' initiative by Art 11 (4 ) of the TEU ( nF ) / Lisbon Treaty.

By 1999, Pichler was a member of the Austrian People's Party ( ÖVP). On the occasion of the ruling coalition of the ÖVP with the right-wing populist Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ ), he resigned from the party.
