Johannes Weiss

John White ( born December 13, 1863 in Kiel, † August 24 1914 in Heidelberg ) was a Protestant theologian who made ​​major contributions to the development of the historical- critical method and its application to the New Testament. White is considered a pioneer of the so-called shape history.

Life

White, the son of Bernhard Weiss, studied in Marburg, Berlin, Göttingen and Breslau. He taught from 1890 in Göttingen, 1895 in Marburg, and from 1908 at the University of Heidelberg and was with his discovery of the eschatological element, especially in the preaching of Jesus to the representatives of the religious-historical school. His students include, inter alia Rudolf Bultmann, who took up his studies on the form of the New Testament history and further led. From white stems, among other things, the term " Q" of the sayings source that has found, according to the two- source theory input in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke.

John White was laid to rest at the Heidelberg hill cemetery in the family grave - Arnold and computing / Müller, Guggler and white -, located in ( Section L ).
