Johannes Winnertz

John Winnertz (* February 11, 1800, † 24 July 1890) was a German entomologist who specialized in the machining of flies ( Diptera).

Life and work

John Winnertz worked as a merchant in Krefeld. Until about 1867, were known in Europe 55 kinds of Sciarinen ( fungus gnats ). Winnertz edited the group and described in a publication from the 1867 total of 131 new species of these flies.

Its collections are located in the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt and the Natural History Museum Vienna. Parts of the collection in Bonn Zoological Museum ( Museum Koenig ) may have been destroyed in the Second World War.
