John and James Woolf

Sir John Woolf ( born March 15, 1913 in London, † June 28, 1999 ) was a British film producer, who for the film Oliver the Oscar in the category Best Film Award in 1969.

Life

Woolf was educated at Eton College and the Institut Montana in Switzerland.

Already Woolf's father, CM Woolf, had been working as a film producer in the British film industry. This established General Film Distributors, in John Woolf also participated. During the Second World War Woolf serves in the Army and was awarded the U.S. Bronze Star.

Together with his younger brother James Woolf 1948, he founded the film production company Romulus Films. 1958 followed by the establishment of Anglia Television. After his brother 's death in 1967 Woolf worked as sole producer on. In 1983 he retired as Managing Director of Anglia Television, 1988, his final retirement.

The 1959 film produced at the Top brought Woolf and his brother a first Oscar nomination. 1969 Woolf Award for Oliver with this.

1975 Woolf was appointed Knight.

Woolf was married three times.
