John Atkinson, Baron Atkinson

John Atkinson, Baron Atkinson, of Glenwilliam in the County of Limerick PC QC ( born December 13, 1844 in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, † March 13, 1932 in London) was an Irish- British lawyer and politician who for ten years Member of the House of Commons and most recently as Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, due to the Appellate jurisdiction Act 1876 as a Life peer was also a member of the House of Lords.

Life

After visiting the Belfast Royal Academy Atkinson holds a degree in Law at Queen's College, Galway, and received after its completion in 1865, the attorney admission by the Irish Chamber of Lawyers (King 's Inns ) in Dublin. He then worked as a barrister in Ireland and in 1880 Attorney-General (Queen 's Counsel ) and 1885 so-called " Bencher " the Law Society of King's Inns.

After he was the successor of Dodgson Hamilton Madden between 1889 and his replacement by Edward Carson in 1892 Solicitor -General for Ireland, he was on 8 July 1895 as the successor of Hugh Hyacinth O'Rorke MacDermot Attorney General ( Attorney General ) for Ireland and held that post for ten years until his replacement by James Campbell on 4 December 1905 together. At the same time Atkinson, who is also member of the Irish Privy Council in 1895 was, on 13 July 1895 to 1905 Member of the House of Commons and represented this constituency Londonderry.

Last Atkinson was appointed by Letters patent dated December 19, 1905 due to the Appellate Jurisdiction Act 1876 as a Life peer with the title Baron Atkinson, of Glenwilliam in the County of Limerick, a member of the House of Lords to the nobility and worked until 1928 as Lord Justice (Lord of Appeal in Ordinary). He was the first native of Ireland, Lord Judge, who had previously exercised no judicial office. In addition, he was Privy Councillor 1905. He subsequently withdrew from active politics partly back and focused on Irish affairs. His judgeship he laid down until 1928.
