John Barbour (poet)

John Barbour ( * after 1316, † March 13, 1395 ) is the oldest national poet of Scotland.

Barbour was archdeacon in Aberdeen.

His poem " The Bruce " ( 1375; . Edited by Skeat, London, 1870) tells the story of Robert the Bruce, the victor of Bannockburn ( 1306-1326 ). Barbour uses the syllable pairs rhyming verse and reveals skill in the story as in the characteristics and special joy in living scenes; linguistically is the work of importance.
