John Bathersby

John Alexius Bathersby ( born July 26, 1936 in Stanthorpe ) is an Australian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic archbishop of Brisbane.

Life

John Alexius Bathersby received on June 30, 1961, ordained priest by the Bishop of Toowoomba, William Joseph Brennan, and was incardinated in the Clergy of the Diocese of Toowoomba.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 17 January 1986 Bishop of Cairns. The Archbishop of Brisbane, Francis Roberts Rush, donated to him on 20 March 1986, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were John Ahern Torpie, retired Bishop of Cairns, and Edward Francis Kelly MSC, Bishop of Toowoomba.

On 3 December 1991, he was appointed Archbishop of Brisbane and introduced into the office on January 30 of next year. Pope Benedict XVI. adopted on 14 November 2011 at the John Alexius Bathersby put forward reasons of age resignation.

He was the first Grand Prior of the Lieutenancy newly established Queensland Australia of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
