John Bromwich

John Edward Bromwich ( born November 14, 1918 in Sydney, † 21 October 1999 in Geelong ) was an Australian tennis player.

Life and work

Along with Adrian Quist Bromwich formed one of the best men's doubles of the 1930s to 1950s. In some of the turf specialist won in 1939 and 1946 at the Australian Open. In addition, he was in the years 1937, 1938, 1947, 1948 and 1949 in the final of this Grand Slam tournament. In doubles, he won eight times from 1938 to 1950 and in mixed he was once successfully. At Wimbledon, he made it to the finals in 1948, but could not win the final against Robert Falkenburg. However, he won in 1948 and 1950 in doubles.

Also at the U.S. Open, he was in 1939, 1949 and 1950 in a double victory. With Australia he won in 1939 and 1950, the Davis Cup.
