John Capgrave

John Capgrave (* 1396 in Norwich, Norfolk, † 1464 in King's Lynn, Norfolk ) was an English historian, theologian and Augustinian monk in the Renaissance.

Life

Capgrave studied at Oxford and then joined the Augustinians at. The majority of his work he wrote in the convent of King's Lynn. Capgrave wrote biblical commentaries and sermons was, however, primarily known by his English " Chronicle of England ", which he led until 1417. The ascribed collection of saints ' biographies, " Nova legenda Angliae ," was not only Capgraves work. It was first published in 1516.
