John Carty (Irish politician)

John Carty (* August 12, 1950; † January 30, 2014 ) was an Irish politician ( Fianna Fáil ), 2002-2007 deputy in Dáil Éireann and 2007-2011 Seanad Éireann senator in.

Carty attended the St. Patrick 's College in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, and the Warren Town Agricultural College in County Meath. At the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, he received a Diploma in Local History.

He belonged to the Mayo County Council and was its chairman from 1999 to 2003. In 2002 he was elected for Fianna Fáil in the constituency of Mayo in the 29th Dáil Éireann. In the 2007 elections, however, Carty could not defend his position. Instead, he was elected to Seanad Éireann 23.

Carty was married and had eight children, six sons and two daughters.
