John Choi Young-su

John Choi Young -su (Korean: 최영수 요한; born March 23, 1942 in Hai Zhen When, South Korea, † August 31, 2009 in Daegu, South Korea) was Roman Catholic Archbishop of Daegu in South Korea.

Life

John Choi Young -su studied from 1961 to 1970 at the Catholic University of Korea in Seoul and was ordained a priest on November 6, 1970.

In 2000 he was appointed by John Paul II as titular bishop of Sitifis and appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Daegu. The episcopal ordination on 27 February 2001 gave him Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou -hwan; Co-consecrators were Paul Ri Moun -hi, Archbishop of Daegu, and Archbishop Giovanni Battista Morandini, Apostolic Nuncio in Korea. In 2006 he was appointed as Coadjutor Archbishop of Daegu. In 2007 he was beatified by Benedict XVI. appointed ninth Archbishop of Daegu. He was a member of the Commission for the Clergy and religion and other committees of the South Korean Bishops' Conference ( CBCK ).

His resignation for health reasons was granted on August 17, 2009.
