Life

He was still placed as a child of the Habsburg occupied Antwerp to England. Who also lives in exile Flemish painter and poet Lucas de Heere taught him. In the late 90s of the 16th century established itself de Critz in London as an independent artist. In 1603 he received the honorable and lucrative position of Serjeant Painter to the king. Progeny

Of his sons John are the Younger ( before 1599 - after 1642), who was also a royal court painter, and Thomas ( 1607-1653 ) and Emmanuel ( 1608-1665 ) handed down by name, and the last two were painters.

Work

De Critz 's work consists mainly of portraits of members of the royal family and high officials. He had to copy as Serjeant Painter but also images of other painters or for example to paint the palaces, carriages and boats of the king and to provide for the decoration of various festivities.
