John Dramani Mahama

John Dramani Mahama ( born November 29, 1958 in Bole Bamboi ) is the current President of the West African country of Ghana. In the 2012 presidential election, he was confirmed in office. He is a member of the NDC.

Career

John Dramani Mahama attended the Achimota Primary School in Accra and the Ghana Secondary School in Tamale in the Northern Region. In his 2012 published autobiographical work My First Coup d'Etat - And Other True Stories from the Lost Decades of Africa Mahama described his experiences in this hated him " elite school " in which the students were drilled in the spirit of the old colonial power Britain. His father was State Secretary in the Government of Kwame Nkrumah and the military coup against this first president of Ghana, in consequence of which his father was briefly detained heard according to his own statements on the formative experiences of his childhood and youth. In 1981 he achieved his bachelor's degree in history from the University of Ghana, Legon and 1986, the Postgraduate Diploma in Communication Studies at the same university.

After studying social psychology in 1988 at the Institute of Social Sciences, Moscow University, he was from 1991 to 1995 employees in the press department of the Japanese Embassy in Ghana and from 1995 to 1996 Employees in Ghana country office of Plan International, an international children's charity.

With the election as Member of Parliament for the NDC in December 1996 in the constituency Bole Bamboi in the Northern region began his political career. He could win this constituency in December 2000 and December 2004. From April 1997 to November 1998, he was Deputy Minister of Communications and November 1998 to January 2001 he took this minister true self. Since 2004 Mahama is a member of Pan-African Parliament and Chairman of the West African Parliament group there.

On 7 January 2009, he was sworn in as Vice- President and 24 July 2012 after the death of President Atta Mills interim president. On December 7, 2012, he won an absolute majority in the national presidential election in the first round of voting.

Private

Mahama was raised in a mixed religious family with Muslims and Christians. He was educated in the Presbyterian spirit, but is a member of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God since marrying his wife Lordina Mahama. He is the father of seven children. He is fluent in English, Akan ( Twi and Fante ), Ga, Gonja and Hausa; further he has good knowledge of Russian and the language of the Ewe.
