John Dunwoody

The Right Honourable Dr. John Elliot Orr Dunwoody CBE ( born June 3, 1929 in London, † January 26, 2006 in Béziers ) was a British Labour politician.

Life

Dunwoody, a trained surgeon, worked from 1955 to 1956 in Devon as a physician at Newton Abbot Hospital and at Totnes District Hospital. He was a deputy of the House of Commons elected in the general election of 31 March 1966, represented there until his defeat in the general election on June 18, 1970 the constituency for Falmouth and Camborne. From 1969 to 1970 Dunwoody was Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Health in the government of Prime Minister Harold Wilson.

Dunwoody was director of Action on Smoking and Health ( ASH). In 1986 he was given the title Commander of the British Empire ( CBE) awarded. He died at home in Béziers in France.

Dunwoodys former wife, Gwyneth Dunwoody, 1966 was also Labour MPs. Their daughter, Tamsin Dunwoody - Kneafsey, is a member of the National Assembly for Wales.
