John Egan (industrialist)

Sir John Egan Leopold (* November 7, 1939 Rawtenstall / Lancashire ) is a British manager. Egan 's chairman since 2005 of the UK water company Severn Trent Group. Since 2007 he has been chancellor of the University of Coventry. He is also Director of the Warwick Castle Park Trust Ltd and Borwick Group Limited, the parent company of an electric car manufacturer Modec.

Egan is married and has two daughters.

Career

John Egan was born on 7 November 1939 as the son of a car dealer in Rawtenstall / Lancashire. Egans education led on the Bablake School to Imperial College, London University, where he studied petroleum engineering ( petroleum engineering) and this study and graduated with a bachelor's degree. Finally, he studied economics at the London Business School, where he graduated with a Master of Science.

Sir John Egan began his career in 1966-1968 as an engineer for petroleum engineering at Shell International.

Egan then worked long in vehicle, first at General Motors 1962-66, then 1968-71 at British Leyland and finally 1976-80 at Massey Ferguson, before he was 1980-90 chairman and chief executive of the British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar.

During this time he was President of the European Association of Car Manufacturers Association of Constructeurs Européens d' Automobiles.

Following the sale of Jaguar to Ford he left Jaguar and was appointed in 1990 to the Board of the British Airports Authority, whose chief executive, he was in the same year. He remained in this position until 1999.

From 2000-2006 he was Chairman of the auto trading company Inchape.

From 2002 to 2004 he was President of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI ).
