John Fahey (politician)

John Joseph Fahey ( born January 10, 1945 in Wellington ) is a former Australian politician.

As a member of the Liberal Party Fahey was a member from 1984 to 1996 of the Legislative Assembly of New South Wales and served between 24 June 1992 and 24 March 1995 as Prime Minister of the state.

1996 brought him the newly elected Australian Prime Minister John Howard as Minister for Finance and Administration in his cabinet; in this post he followed Kim Beazley. In 2001 he retired after lung transplantation from politics. During this period, he also had the House of Representatives belongs.

On 17 November 2007 he was elected to succeed Richard Pound chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA ). He took up his post on 1 January 2008.
